DeChambeau Triumphs at LIV Golf South Africa, Secures Back-to-Back Victory

MIDRAND, South Africa — Bryson DeChambeau continued his dominant form, defeating Jon Rahm in a playoff to win the 2026 LIV Golf South Africa tournament on Sunday, March 22nd. This victory marks DeChambeau’s second consecutive win on the LIV Golf circuit, following his triumph in Singapore the previous week, and his fifth career LIV title.

A Tight Contest at Steyn City

The tournament, LIV Golf’s first event on the African continent held at The Club at Steyn City, saw a thrilling finish as both DeChambeau and Rahm concluded regulation play at 26-under par. Rahm carded a bogey-free 8-under 65 on Sunday to force a playoff, erasing DeChambeau’s three-shot lead. DeChambeau responded with a final-round 68.

Playoff Drama on the 18th

On the first playoff hole, the par-5 18th, DeChambeau delivered a remarkable fairway wood shot from a difficult lie in the rough, positioning himself for a potential eagle. Rahm’s approach found a greenside bunker, and his subsequent shot left him outside of DeChambeau’s mark. After Rahm missed his birdie putt, DeChambeau secured the win with a two-putt birdie.

Emotional Victory for DeChambeau

DeChambeau was visibly emotional after the win, embracing his caddie and teammates from Crushers GC. He alluded to personal challenges during the week, stating, “A lot has happened in the past week. I’m just so grateful for my team, the Crushers, everybody supporting me.” He added, “Golf is a fickle game…there’s a lot more to life than just golf.”

Crushers GC Also Claim Team Title

Adding to the success, DeChambeau’s team, Crushers GC, also won the team event, narrowly defeating the South African-based Southern Guard by a single shot.

DeChambeau’s Continued Success and Upcoming Schedule

With this win, DeChambeau joins Joaquín Niemann and Brooks Koepka as the only players with at least five LIV Golf individual titles. Crushers GC currently leads the league with nine team victories. The LIV Golf tour will next head to Mexico City for a tournament at Club de Golf Chapultepec from April 16-19.

Looking Ahead to the Masters

DeChambeau’s strong performance comes as he prepares for the Masters Tournament, which begins in just over two weeks. His recent victories have positioned him as a strong contender for the coveted green jacket.
