Delhi Police’s ‘Jhansi’ Patrol: Empowering Women and Enhancing Safety in the Capital

Delhi Police has launched a fresh initiative to bolster public safety, particularly for women, with the introduction of ‘Jhansi’ patrolling scooties and ‘Jaguar’ motorcycles. This deployment, initiated in central and north Delhi in September 2025, aims to increase police visibility, deter crime, and provide a faster response to incidents.

A Women-Led Initiative: The ‘Jhansi’ Squad

The ‘Jhansi’ patrol consists of 15 scooties operated by women police officers. These teams are strategically deployed to focus on areas where women are particularly vulnerable to harassment, including near school gates, university campuses, crowded bus stands, hospital entrances, and other public hotspots . The initiative seeks to provide a visible and reassuring presence for women in public spaces.

‘Jaguar’ Motorcycles: Enhancing Street Surveillance

Complementing the ‘Jhansi’ scooties, 71 ‘Jaguar’ motorcycles are being operated by male police personnel. These motorcycles are used to patrol major roads and busy stretches, further enhancing street surveillance and deterring crime .

Equipped for Effective Patrolling

Both the ‘Jhansi’ scooties and ‘Jaguar’ motorcycles are equipped with GPS trackers, enabling effective monitoring of sensitive areas around the clock . Officers assigned to these patrols receive specialized training to handle various situations and ensure a swift response to incidents.

Flagged Off at Red Fort

The initiative was officially launched on September 16, 2025, with a flag-off ceremony at the iconic Red Fort, presided over by Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Zone-I) Ravindra Singh Yadav .
