The House of Representatives is also scheduled to vote on DHS funding legislation Thursday, marking the third attempt to pass a bill funding the entire department through September. Despite repeated House passage, the legislation has faced roadblocks in the Senate. The looming recess adds pressure to the situation, with Thune suggesting the Senate may postpone the break if a funding agreement isn’t reached. “If DHS funding isn’t resolved, I suspect we’ll probably be around here,” he stated.

Former President Donald Trump has entered the fray, urging Republicans to end the Senate filibuster to expedite the funding process. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump accused Democrats of punishing the American people and called for a swift resolution. He also reiterated his support for the SAVE America Act, an election bill, and suggested linking it to DHS funding, a move that previously complicated negotiations.
