Dubai is often described as a place where the streets are paved with gold. This metaphor could soon become a reality: the city authorities are about to open a real “golden street”, reports Euronews.
The United Arab Emirates has announced a special architectural project: the world’s first street built using real gold, reports the press service of the Dubai Municipality, citing official statements from the Dubai Media Office.
Dubai Gold District is the renaming of the city’s current Gold Souk. The new street will be part of a larger project. Press releases indicate that Zelta iela will be “built using gold”, but the exact details – how the metal will be used (in the form of tiles, inlays or decorative elements) – have not yet been officially revealed.
Construction and opening dates for the project have not yet been announced; detailed plans will be published gradually.
According to authorities, the new area is set to become a central landmark of the district and an additional magnet for tourists and investors.
The Dubai Gold District project is an integrated space for trade, retail and investment related to gold and jewellery. It will combine under one architectural concept retail stores and branded goods, gold and bullion wholesale, investment opportunities and trade areas, services and infrastructure for international buyers.
