Dubai Tourism Disrupted by Regional Conflict, Operators Focus on Evacuations

Dubai-based tour operators are grappling with a surge in trip cancellations and the urgent need to facilitate the return of tourists following escalating conflict in the Middle East. While the situation remains fluid, companies are working with embassies and authorities to arrange alternative travel routes for those stranded in the United Arab Emirates.

Cancellations and Financial Impact

The conflict has led to a significant number of cancellations, particularly from the Italian market. Kamal Esawy, owner of ‘El Mundo Tourism,’ reported a loss of over €350,000 within days of the outbreak of hostilities. This disruption effectively jeopardizes the peak tourist season, which coincides with spring and Easter travel. Esawy noted that Italy represents the second-largest market for his company, following Spain and South America.

Evacuation Efforts via Oman

Tour operators are collaborating with the Italian Foreign Ministry (Farnesina) and other national authorities to reroute travelers through Muscat, Oman. Flights operated by Oman Air are being utilized to transport tourists from Oman to Italy. El Mundo Tourism is coordinating land transportation, using 45-seater coaches and mini-vans, to move stranded tourists from the UAE to Oman. The company is also proactively notifying affected tourists, advising them to book flights through their respective embassies.

Italian Community and Tourist Numbers

Approximately 60,000 Italians reside in the Emirates, and, as of reports, have not left the country. Around 3,000 Italian tourists are currently attempting to return home. El Mundo Tourism is actively involved in assisting with these evacuation efforts, providing guiding services and logistical support. El Mundo Tourism LLC specializes in tours across the UAE, Oman, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Mauritius.

El Mundo Tourism Services

El Mundo Tourism & Guiding Services LLC provides tours and safaris with Arabic tour guides fluent in multiple languages, including Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, Polish, Russian, English, German, Dutch, and Arabic, with plans to add Chinese and Japanese soon. EL MUNDO TOURISM GUIDANCE SERVICES LLC is a registered company in Dubai.
