Elaine Welteroth and Appear Optic Launch the Davis Frames

Look Optic has collaborated with Elaine Welteroth, journalist, author, and former Editor-in-Chief of Teen Vogue, to design a new eyewear frame called the Davis. The frames are now available for purchase on the Look Optic website in five different shades.

Inspired by Activism and Empowerment

The Davis frames draw inspiration from activist Angela Davis, reflecting Welteroth’s belief that fashion extends beyond personal style, serving as a means of identity, empowerment, and storytelling [WWD]. Welteroth stated that the design was inspired by “icons who changed how power looks simply by owning their bold perspectives” [WWD].

Design and Features

The Davis frames are an oversized design, nodding to 1970s silhouettes [Look Optic]. Andrew Leary, founder of Look Optic, described the frames as “sophisticated but accessible” and noted that Welteroth encouraged a focus on proportion, tone, and presence in the design process [WWD]. The frames are made from 100% recycled materials and feature Italian spring hinges and wire-core temples for a comfortable fit [Look Optic].

Pricing and Availability

The Davis frames are priced between $68 and $98 [WWD] and are available in Shiny Black, Shiny Espresso, Yellow Tint, Orange Tint, and Champagne Lake Blue [Look Optic]. They are offered as readers and progressive readers with magnification options ranging from +1.00 to +3.00 [Look Optic].

Look Optic Collaborations

Elaine Welteroth joins a line of collaborators with Look Optic, which has previously partnered with Eva Mendes, Diane Keaton, and Alex Rodriguez [WWD].
