Eric Boersma Assumes Managing Director Role at Heracles Almelo

Eric Boersma takes over as managing director of Heracles Almelo on December 1, signing a contract that runs through the summer of 2030. Boersma steps into the position after serving as Head of Expertise at the KNVB.

The 37-year-old administrator brings extensive domestic football experience to the club. Before joining the KNVB in March 2023, Boersma spent twelve and a half years working within sc Heerenveen’s youth academy, eventually serving as academy manager. At the Dutch football association, he initially worked as a senior advisor for professional football before stepping up to lead the expertise department. In that role, his team supported directors, board members, and staff across professional organizations to strengthen operational management.

Background in Friesland and Professional Growth at the KNVB

Growing up in Achlum and residing in Goutum, Boersma built a comprehensive understanding of Dutch football operations during his tenure in Friesland. Working with volunteers, scouts, trainers, and supporters at sc Heerenveen provided a foundation in club dynamics.

His transition to the KNVB broadened that perspective across the entire country. “At the KNVB, I saw how clubs work across the entire country, what goes well and where it chafes,” Boersma stated. That accumulated insight directly informs his approach to his new executive duties in Almelo.

Integration and Initial Priorities in Almelo

Boersma points to the working culture at his new club as a primary draw for his career move. “What appeals to me about Heracles Almelo is the mentality,” Boersma said. “Hard work is done here, without fuss. The Asito Stadium, the ambiance during matches and the involved supporters appeal to me a lot.”

During his first weeks on the job, the incoming managing director plans to focus on introductions. He will meet directly with club employees, supporters’ associations, and corporate partners.
