Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes Welcomes Orthopedic Physician Assistant Kristine Stompro

Detroit Lakes, MN – March 21, 2026 – Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes is pleased to announce the addition of Kristine Stompro, a certified physician assistant, to its orthopedic surgery team. Stompro brings eight years of experience as a physician assistant at Essentia Health Urgent Care-Detroit Lakes to her new role.

Focus on Orthopedic Surgery

Stompro expressed her long-standing interest in the field, stating, “I have always gravitated towards orthopedics because I enjoy the tangible nature of the specialty. It’s very hands-on.” She further explained her approach to patient care: “I love that you can utilize palpation, range of motion and strength testing and have a good idea of the injury or issue to address.”

Educational Background and Credentials

Stompro completed her physician assistant education at Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon, and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Prior to pursuing her PA degree, she worked in athletic training, focusing on sports injury management, and rehabilitation.

“Prior to physician assistant school, I worked in athletic training,” said Stompro. “I’ve always enjoyed managing sports injuries and rehabilitation and am looking forward to starting in this new role.”
