Fano’s Urban Hygiene Service Contract Extended to 2050
The Municipality of Fano has secured the continuation of its urban hygiene service with Aset, a local company, until the end of 2050. This decision follows a legal challenge regarding the contract’s duration and ensures stability in waste management for the city.
Background of the Contract Dispute
A dispute arose concerning the expiration date of the waste management contract. While the municipal administration had extended the contract to 2050, the territorial assembly of the area contested this, advocating for the original expiry date of 2031. The Marche Administrative Court ultimately sided with the Municipality of Fano, validating their decision to extend the contract.
Court Ruling and Reaction
The Marche Administrative Court’s ruling was welcomed by Fano’s mayor, Luca Serfilippi, deputy mayor Loretta Manocchi, and Aset spa president Giacomo Mattioli. They emphasized the decision’s importance for the future of Aset and the city, reinforcing the value of in-house management of local public services. The ruling clarifies the framework within which Aset will continue to operate.
Landfill Capacity and Expansion Plans
With the contract extended to 2050, attention now turns to managing waste capacity. Discussions are underway at the Ata assembly regarding a volumetric expansion of landfills. A 300,000 cubic meter expansion is proposed for the Monteschiantello landfill, alongside a 450,000 cubic meter expansion for Ca’ Asprete, totaling 750,000 cubic meters.
