Cine Teatro Plaza de Godoy Cruz Prepares 2027 Programming, Opens Call for Proposals

The historic Cine Teatro Plaza in Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, is already planning its 2027 season and has opened a call for proposals from artists, cultural groups, and educational institutions. This announcement comes as the venue continues to be a cornerstone of cultural life in the region, nearing its 80th anniversary.

A Cultural Landmark with a Rich History

Established in 1946, the Cine Teatro Plaza initially functioned solely as a cinema for nearly four decades, serving the community until 1988. The Municipality of Godoy Cruz officially acquired the building on May 11, 2017, simultaneously declaring it a Cultural Heritage site. Today, it hosts a diverse range of performances, including theater, dance, and music, alongside educational and social activities.

From Cinema to Multifaceted Cultural Center

Originally boasting 1,300 seats, the venue adapted over time, reducing its capacity to 670 on the ground floor and 330 on the second level to accommodate an expanded stage. The theater has welcomed numerous prominent artists over the years, including Mercedes Sosa, Darío Vítori, Serú Girán, and León Gieco, among others. Recent performances have included shows by Pepe Cibrián, Hilda Lizarazu, and a symphonic rendition of the “Game of Thrones” soundtrack.

Call for Proposals: 2027 Programming

Interested parties are invited to submit their project proposals and inquiries to plazacineteatro@gmail.com between April 1 and April 30, 2026. The call is open to managers and groups involved in cultural activities, as well as educational institutions of all levels. The Municipality aims to continue offering high-quality cultural options to the Mendoza community.
