Fedora Atomic OS Now Available for Select Android Devices

Fedora Pocketblue Remix is bringing an atomic Fedora experience to mobile devices, offering a unique alternative to traditional Android operating systems. Although still under active development, the project currently supports the Xiaomi Pad 5, Xiaomi Pad 6, and OnePlus 6/6T, providing users with a taste of immutable Linux on their handhelds.

What is Fedora Pocketblue Remix?

Fedora Pocketblue Remix utilizes OCI, OSTree, and Bootc technologies, building upon the foundation of upstream atomic Fedora images like Silverblue and Kinoite. This approach delivers a system where updates are atomic – meaning they either fully succeed or completely fail, preventing partially updated systems and enhancing stability. System images are distributed as OCI containers, streamlining the update and management process.

Supported Devices

Currently, Fedora Pocketblue Remix is confirmed to function on a limited, but growing, list of devices:

• Xiaomi Pad 6
• OnePlus 6/6T

Developers are actively working to expand device compatibility, and users are encouraged to contribute to the project to help bring support to additional hardware.
