Fintan Costello Appointed Head of Sales for Penneys in Ireland and Northern Ireland

Fintan Costello has been appointed as the new Head of Sales for Penneys in Ireland and Northern Ireland, effective March 10, 2026. Costello, originally from Ferbane, Offaly, assumes the role after more than 30 years with the company.

Extensive Experience at Penneys

Costello’s career with Penneys (Primark) spans over three decades. He most recently led projects for the retailer’s global commercial team, based in Arthur Ryan House in Dublin. RTE reported in September 2023 that he previously held positions in Germany and Austria as an Area Manager and then Commercial Manager, and also served in roles in Spain and the UK.

Prior to his global commercial team role, Costello was the General Manager of Penneys’ flagship store on Mary Street in Dublin.

Penneys Investment in Ireland

This appointment comes as Penneys is currently undertaking a €250 million investment program in Ireland. This includes the development, relocation, and refurbishment of stores nationwide, as well as the construction of a new distribution center in Newbridge, County Kildare, scheduled to open next year. Recent developments include a relocated store at Dundrum Town Centre, which is the retailer’s third-largest store in Ireland.

Future Store Expansion

When asked about potential expansion, Costello indicated that a Penneys store in Tullamore is not entirely off the table. Penneys currently operates three stores in the Midlands region: Portlaoise, Athlone, and Mullingar. Midlands 103 reported on this possibility.

Leadership Transition

Costello takes over from Damien O’Neill, who has been promoted to the newly created role of Vice President of US Retail at Primark. O’Neill will be based in Primark’s US regional office in Boston.
