Forza Horizon 6 Set to Revamp Career Mode and Progression System

Playground Games is addressing long-standing criticisms of the Forza Horizon series with significant changes to the career mode and progression system in the upcoming Forza Horizon 6, slated for release on May 19, 2026, for PC and Xbox Series X|S. A PlayStation 5 release is similarly planned for sometime in 2026.

Addressing Progression Concerns

Previous Forza Horizon games have been criticized for overly generous rewards, leading to a lack of challenging progression. Players often received an abundance of credits, experience points, and cars, diminishing the sense of accomplishment. Forza Horizon 6 aims to rectify this by casting players as newcomers to the Japanese automotive scene, rather than established “Horizon superstars.”

Introducing Mei and Jordy

Players will be guided through Japan by two local experts: Mei, a car building specialist with deep knowledge of local culture, and Jordy, a motorsports enthusiast. These characters will assist players in navigating the country and ascending the ranks of the Horizon festival.

The Wristband System and Horizon Legend Rank

Progression in Forza Horizon 6 will be driven by earning Wristbands through completion of Showcase Events at key locations: Tokyo City Docks, Sotoyama Ski Resort, and Irokawa Space Center. Collecting all seven Wristbands will unlock the Horizon Legend rank, granting access to Legend Island, a new area featuring unique events and the Legend Island Circuit.

Hypercar Access Tied to Progression

For the first time in recent Forza Horizon titles, high-performance hypercars will not be immediately available. Players will need to achieve at least the Purple Wristband – a late-game milestone – before they can race vehicles like the Lamborghini or Bugatti on the track.

Open World Exploration and Customization

Despite the structured progression, Forza Horizon 6 will maintain the open-world exploration that defines the series. Players can earn Stamps by completing side activities such as delivering food, collecting cars, and taking photos. These Stamps unlock new player houses, barn find rumors, customizable garages, and The Estate, a valley where players can build their own personalized home base.

Premium Edition Benefits

Players who purchase the Premium Edition of Forza Horizon 6 will gain early access to the game on May 15, 2026, along with an exclusive, pre-tuned Ferrari J50.

Forza Horizon 6 is coming on May 19 on PC and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation 5 is also getting Forza Horizon 6, albeit at a later date, somewhere in 2026.
