Franklin Templeton is set to launch two exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that automatically convert stock dividends into Bitcoin, shifting the reinvestment process from traditional shares to cryptocurrency. The funds, which target an initial 5% Bitcoin allocation, are scheduled for an effective date of October 27, 2026, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Nasdaq Listings for FBEQ and FIBT
The firm registered the Franklin U.S. Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FBEQ) and the Franklin U.S. Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FIBT) on the Nasdaq Stock Market following the submission of a Form 8-A, Stocktwits reported. While the funds have moved closer to launch, Franklin Templeton has not yet confirmed an official first trading session. The products were initially proposed in June, with subsequent amendments pushing the effective date to late October.
Dividend Reinvestment Strategy
Unlike standard dividend reinvestment plans (DRIPs) that purchase more shares of the underlying companies, these ETFs redirect regular and special dividends into Bitcoin. The purchase occurs at the market open on the day following a stock’s ex-dividend date, according to etfdb.com. This mechanism allows the Bitcoin stake to grow over time based on company payouts rather than requiring additional cash injections from investors. The funds are not required to hold physical Bitcoin; they may gain exposure through exchange-traded products, futures, and options, including those managed by Franklin Templeton affiliates.

Index Weighting and Rebalancing Rules
To maintain Bitcoin as a secondary holding, the underlying VettaFi indices follow strict rebalancing protocols. If the Bitcoin allocation exceeds 5% during a quarterly review, the fund trims the position back to 4.5% and redistributes the proceeds into the equity holdings. A faster reset is triggered if Bitcoin’s weight surpasses 20% at any market close; in that scenario, the index is trimmed to 4.5% within two trading days. As of October 26, Bitcoin sat below the 5% threshold in both indices, representing 3.95% of the large-cap index and 3.24% of the innovation index, etfdb.com noted.

Portfolio Composition
The two funds target distinct segments of the U.S. equity market:
- FBEQ (Large-Cap 500): This fund tracks the 500 largest U.S. companies by market value. As of late October, technology stocks accounted for approximately 35.58% of the index, with Apple and Nvidia serving as the top two holdings.
- FIBT (Innovation 100): This fund focuses on the 100 largest U.S. companies on the Nasdaq, excluding financial firms. The sector concentration is more aggressive, with technology comprising 58.72% of the index weight as of October 26, according to etfdb.com.
Investor Questions on Bitcoin DRIP ETFs
Does this strategy guarantee continuous growth of the Bitcoin position? No. While dividends are systematically reinvested into Bitcoin, market volatility and the fund’s rebalancing rules mean the weighting will fluctuate.
The annual operating expenses are listed at 0.09% for FBEQ and 0.19% for FIBT, according to CCN.
Franklin Templeton already maintains a presence in the digital asset space through its existing Franklin Bitcoin ETF (EZBC), which held approximately $467 million in assets as of October 23, 2026.
