Gardner-Webb Track and Field Star Quentin Peterson Earns Big South Championship Honors

MILL SPRING, N.C. – Gardner-Webb track and field concluded a successful showing at the 2026 Big South Indoor Championships, with senior Quentin Peterson named Men’s Most Outstanding Performance and junior Jonathan Timpson earning Scholar Athlete of The Year honors. The championships took place February 27-28, 2026, at the Tryon International – Indoor Complex in Mill Spring, North Carolina [Source: TFRRS].

Peterson Dominates in Throwing Events

Quentin Peterson continued his dominance in the throwing events, securing the Men’s Most Outstanding Performance Award. Building on his success at the 2025 Indoor Championships, where he won championships in shot put and weight throw and set a Big South Conference record in the latter, Peterson once again excelled at the 2026 event. He won the men’s shot put with a mark of 20.10 meters, establishing a new school record and achieving one of the top marks in the NCAA during the indoor season. [Source: TFRRS] He as well defended his title in weight throw, recording a winning mark of 20.00 meters – the only throw in the competition to surpass 20 meters.

Timpson Shines On and Off the Track

Junior Jonathan Timpson was recognized as the Scholar Athlete of The Year for Gardner-Webb. The Hildale, Utah native maintained a 3.91 GPA while pursuing his degree in Exercise Science. [Source: TFRRS] In addition to his academic achievements, Timpson contributed to the team’s success by finishing third in the men’s high jump event with a mark of 2.01 meters.

Big South Championship Results

High Point secured the overall team title at the 2026 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships, finishing with 188 points. Charleston Southern finished second with 160 points, and USC Upstate rounded out the top three with 106 points. [Source: TFRRS]
