According to reports, the deal was concluded this summer. It includes the 36 percent stake previously held by Tawazun Fund of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and part of the stake owned by the Russian state research institute NAMI. The stake was acquired by gazprom Tech, which was founded in 2023 to consolidate assets in the aviation, shipbuilding and automotive industries.

Currently, the list of Aurus shareholders is kept secret. At the end of December last year, the share of 36 percent, which previously belonged to Tawazun, was transferred to the Russian company Dedal. NAMI owned a 63.5 percent stake, and the remaining 0.5 percent belonged to Hit Motors Rus, which is headed by the former director of the Moskvich car brand and Kamaz alumnus Hans-Peter Moser.

According to a source, Gazprom did not initially intend to purchase the stake, but was compelled to do so under the condition of a management overhaul. In September, the CEO of Aurus was replaced. The new investor is obligated to provide funding for the company’s future advancement.

Aurus produces limited-edition luxury vehicles primarily used by high-ranking Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin. The Aurus project began in 2013, when the government tasked NAMI with developing a range of vehicles for transporting top officials. The government allocated 12.4 billion rubles for the project.
