Google is integrating its Gemini AI model more deeply into Google Workspace, bringing new capabilities to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. These updates, rolling out to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, aim to streamline content creation, data analysis, and presentation design, making the suite more personal, capable, and collaborative.

Gemini in Docs: Your AI Writing Partner

Gemini in Docs is designed to assist users throughout the writing process. A new “Help me create” feature allows users to simply describe their desired content – for example, “draft a newsletter for our neighborhood association using the meeting minutes from my January HOA meeting and the list of upcoming events” – and Gemini will generate a customized first draft, drawing from relevant files, Gmail, Chat, and the web.

Beyond initial drafts, Gemini can refine specific sections of a document, strengthen messaging, and build upon existing ideas. Users can too utilize “Match writing style” to ensure consistency in voice and tone across collaborative documents, and “Match doc format” to automatically align a document’s style with a reference template. For instance, Gemini can populate a travel itinerary template with details extracted from flight confirmations and hotel bookings found in your emails.

Gemini is evolving into a collaborative partner within Sheets, going beyond simply being a tool you work *in*. With a single prompt, it can pull relevant data from Gmail, Chat, and Drive to quickly create fully formatted spreadsheets.
