iOS 27.2 Released: Update Now to Patch 141 Security Bugs and Stability Issues

Apple released iOS 27.2 on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, closing 141 bugs and security vulnerabilities—a decrease from the 157 fixes in last month’s iOS 27 update but well above the 88 patches in iOS 26.6, the highest count in the previous operating system version, CNET reported.

The update arrives days after the launch of the iPhone Duo and addresses nine flaws that could cause kernel corruption, which can freeze or crash a device, and seven vulnerabilities that could allow arbitrary code execution, meaning a third party could access data or run commands on an iPhone. Apple also patched a bug triggered by plugging in a malicious USB device.

Kernel and USB Vulnerabilities Among 141 Fixes

The kernel forms the core of the iPhone’s operating system, and corruption can leave a device inoperable. Apple’s release notes detail that iOS 27.2 resolves dozens of issues across the system, with the nine kernel corruption bugs and seven arbitrary code execution flaws representing some of the most serious risks patched. Newsbite.tech noted that the update also brings Siri AI to additional languages.

Patch Count Exceeds Recent iOS 26 Updates

At 141 fixes, iOS 27.2 follows an unusual trend: last month’s iOS 27 patched 157 bugs, and both figures far exceed the 88 fixes in iOS 26.6 and the 75 patches in iOS 18.4, according to CNET. Apple’s release notes mention OpenAI four times and Anthropic three times, though the company did not indicate that artificial intelligence identified these specific vulnerabilities.

Install iOS 27.2 Through Settings

Users can download the update now by going to Settings, then General, then Software Update, and choosing Update Now. Apple did not state that any of the 141 bugs were being actively exploited before the patch, but the company urges users to install iOS 27.2 for protection.

iOS 27.2 Security Update Questions

Were any of the 141 vulnerabilities actively exploited? Apple did not write that any of the bugs were being actively exploited, according to CNET’s review of the release notes. The company released the patch on Oct. 26, 2026, just days after the iPhone Duo launch.

What is arbitrary code execution? It means a flaw could allow a third party to steal data or use an iPhone for other purposes. iOS 27.2 patches seven such bugs, alongside nine kernel corruption issues that could cause device crashes.

How does 141 compare to previous iOS updates? The count is lower than iOS 27’s 157 fixes but higher than the 88 in iOS 26.6, the most in the iOS 26 series, Newsbite.tech reported. iOS 18.4 previously patched 75 bugs.
