Genesis GV60 Magma: A New Contender in High-Performance EVs
With the debut of the all-electric GV60 Magma, Genesis is positioning itself as more than just an alternative to established European performance and luxury brands. The Magma editions signify the brand’s evolution into a legitimate high-performance marque, blending its “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy with a powerful powertrain.
What is Genesis Magma?
Genesis Magma is a performance sub-brand designed to compete with BMW M and Mercedes-AMG. The signature orange Magma color, according to Genesis, represents Korea’s self-confidence and passion. The brand aims to infuse its cultural identity into a high-performance line of vehicles, similar to Japanese, European, or American manufacturers.
Starting with the GV60 Magma, Genesis plans to expand the Magma line to include high-performance variants across its entire portfolio, including a production version of the G80 Magma Special and a future supercar inspired by the Magma GT Concept. Genesis is also leveraging learnings from its new Magma Racing program, set to compete in the 2026 World Endurance Championship, to further enhance the performance credentials of the Magma brand.
Most Powerful Genesis Ever
The GV60 Magma features a dual-motor configuration, representing a significant upgrade over the standard GV60. Key specifications include:

- Torque: 583 lb-ft (790 Nm)
- Acceleration (with Launch Control): 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds; 0-124 mph in 10.9 seconds
- Top Speed: Track-rated at 164 mph
- Vehicle Weight: 4,850 lbs
The GV60 Magma utilizes a next-generation two-stage motor control system to overcome limitations typically found in conventional EVs, where back electromotive force can reduce power at high RPMs. This system, employing advanced software algorithms, allows the motors to spin up to nearly 21,000 rpm without significant torque drop-off, maintaining power throughout the speed range.
Compared to competitors, the GV60 Magma offers a higher top speed (164 mph) than the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV (149 mph). It also features an 800-volt architecture for faster charging compared to the Mercedes’ 400-volt system. While the BMW iX3 M60 is a close technical rival, the GV60 Magma nearly matches the iX M70’s 650 horsepower and surpasses its 155 mph top speed, while also offering the superior 800-volt charging architecture.
New Boost Mode
Similar to features found in other high-performance EVs, the GV60 Magma includes an enhanced Boost Mode, extending the duration from 10 seconds (in the standard GV60) to 15 seconds. The vehicle offers five distinct drive modes, including Magma-exclusive Sprint and GT modes. Sprint Mode optimizes accelerator sensitivity for track utilize, while GT Mode provides a more traditional luxury grand touring experience.
The GV60 Magma is equipped with 275/35R21 Pirelli P Zero 5 tires as standard.
Innovative Accelerator Pedal
Genesis has focused on refining the driving experience with details like accelerator pedal resistance. Senior Research Engineer Taejun Kang explained that the team increased resistance across the pedal’s range to improve driver control. Lower resistance is provided for light inputs during daily commuting, while higher resistance is offered for more aggressive maneuvers on the track. This nuanced approach aims to reduce driver fatigue and provide a more intuitive connection to the vehicle’s power.
The GV60 Magma also includes additional sound-absorbing materials and acoustic laminated glass to enhance cabin quietness.
Availability and Pricing
Deliveries of the 2027 GV60 Magma are already underway in South Korea and will reach select American Genesis retailers this summer. The projected starting MSRP ranges from $75,000 to $80,000, with limited availability expected.
