Gibson Dunn Joins LA28 as Official Legal Counsel
The LA28 organizing committee has tapped Los Angeles-based law firm Gibson Dunn to provide legal services for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The partnership formalizes the firm’s role in supporting both the organizing committee and Team USA, a key addition to the commercial portfolio as the city accelerates its preparations for the Summer Games.
A Local Firm for a Global Event
Gibson Dunn will task its Sports Industry Group with the assignment. The team manages transactions, intellectual property, litigation, and governance for a broad range of sports properties.
Elisabeth Frienberg, LA28’s chief legal officer, said the firm was selected for its “deep Los Angeles roots, industry reach, and multidisciplinary capabilities.” Barbara Becker, chair and managing partner at Gibson Dunn, described the agreement as a “special moment to see that commitment extend to a Games that will welcome the world.”
Building the 2028 Commercial Infrastructure
The appointment follows a string of commercial deals designed to secure essential services for the Games. Recent additions to the LA28 roster include:
- Musco Lighting: Appointed in June 2024 to provide ‘field-of-play’ and broadcast lighting for the Games and Team USA.
- JPMorganChase: Announced in April 2024 as an international banking partner in a deal facilitated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that covers both LA28 and Team USA.
- Ticketmaster and SI Tickets: Named in March 2024 as the official verified resale platforms for the Games.
