Google Sandbox Code Reveals Experimental Tamba Social Platform

Google is quietly testing a standalone application package inside the YouTube ecosystem for Android and iOS, pointing toward a potential new social network tentatively named Tamba.

The code was discovered inside version 21.44.534 of the YouTube Android application. It operates within an isolated sandbox environment designated as com.google.android.youtube.sandbox. Android Authority first uncovered the discovery, which houses 38 unreleased graphic icons alongside clear references to the Tamba ecosystem. The underlying setup shares strict structural similarities with core YouTube branding, signaling a tight technical integration between the dominant video platform and the new experimental environment.

Engineers Test Direct Messaging and Voice Features Across Mobile Operating Systems

Deep within the sandbox, code fragments outline a comprehensive feature set. The platform supports direct messaging, group chat creation, and standalone status posts.

Additional assets point to voice messaging, voice replies, follower tracking requests, and dedicated media sharing tools including cameras and stickers. Sandbox references for both ANDROID_SANDBOX and IOS_SANDBOX confirm that engineers are actively testing the platform across multiple mobile operating systems long before any potential public rollout.

Early Development and the Shadow of Google+

Google has not commented publicly on the discovery. Company representatives have never used the Tamba name in official communications.

Development remains in an early experimental phase. There is currently no confirmation on whether the platform will ever reach a stable release or stay strictly limited to specific subscribers. Even so, the initiative marks a renewed push into social networking for the company following the closure of Google+ in April 2019. The upcoming network might not function as a completely independent platform, as it would compete with rivals like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

Using YouTube’s Massive Global Reach

Unlike its previous standalone social network, any future platform tied to Tamba relies on a direct connection to YouTube’s established user base of roughly 2.53 billion monthly active users worldwide, which includes about 150 million subscribers. In the United States, YouTube already competes with traditional television broadcasters and holds the largest fan base in India and Brazil.

Engineering work on the project is expected to continue for months as developers refine the experimental interface.
