Google Pixel 10a: A Detailed Look at Google’s New Midrange Phone
Following the launch of the flagship Pixel 10, Google has introduced the midrange Pixel 10a. The new offering represents a refinement of the Pixel 9a, with notable design changes, most prominently the elimination of the camera bump.
Design and Build Quality
The most immediately noticeable change in the Pixel 10a is the removal of the camera bump, a feature many users found aesthetically displeasing. Google has managed to house the camera hardware flush with the phone’s back panel. The phone maintains an aluminum frame with a plastic back cover and is available in four colors: Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian. The company highlights an increased use of recycled materials in the phone’s construction.
Display Enhancements
The Pixel 10a features a 6.3-inch Actua display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels at 422.2 PPI. Brightness has been increased by 11% compared to the Pixel 9a, offering 2000 nits (HBM) and 3000 nits (HDR peak) brightness. The display also includes a Smooth Display feature with a refresh rate ranging from 60-120Hz and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
Camera Specifications
Despite the design changes, the Pixel 10a retains the same imaging hardware as the Pixel 9a. It features a dual rear camera system consisting of a 48MP wide sensor and a 13MP ultrawide sensor. There is no telephoto lens. The front-facing camera is a 13MP sensor.
Performance and Battery
The Pixel 10a is powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset, the same processor found in its predecessor. Battery capacity remains at 5100mAh (minimum 5000 mAh), and Google does not anticipate significant changes in battery endurance. The phone supports 30W wired charging and 10W wireless charging (Qi-certified).
Software and Security
The Pixel 10a launches with Android 16 and benefits from Google’s commitment to 7 years of OS updates and security patches. It also includes VPN by Google at no extra cost, end-to-end security features, a Titan M2 security chip, and anti-malware/phishing protection.
Pricing and Availability
The Pixel 10a is available for pre-order and will be available for purchase starting March 5th at the Google Store and through select carriers. Pricing starts at $284 for the 128GB model and $499 for the 256GB model, with financing options available at $7.89/month for 36 months. Matching phone cases and Pixel Buds 2a color variants (Berry and Fog) will also be available.
