Education Center Deadline Set for October 15

Chukotka Governor Vladislav Kuznetsov inspected infrastructure and social projects in Ugolnye Kopy on Monday, issuing a firm October 15 deadline for critical repairs at the local Education Center. While the capital roof project is currently behind schedule, contractors have finalized the screed, insulation, and two layers of waterproofing.

The delay stems from structural complications; crews discovered the existing screed was significantly thicker than initial project estimates indicated. To offset the setback, the contractor has pledged to renovate the building’s gymnasium at their own expense. Students are expected to return to in-person classes on October 19.

By housing advanced diagnostic equipment, the hospital has eliminated the need for patients to travel across the Anadyr Estuary for testing.

The wing features a computed tomography (CT) scanner, an expert-class ultrasound machine, and an intensive care unit. During the visit, Kuznetsov met with Yulia Obukhova, a young therapist who returned to the region to practice after completing her medical education under a targeted regional placement program.

Connectivity and Transit Infrastructure

Regional transit is seeing a parallel push. A capital road project linking the 10th pier to the federal highway is slated for handover on October 15. To bolster passenger comfort, officials have installed a climate-controlled bus shelter at the pier site.

Water Management and Long-Term Utility Goals

Kuznetsov also reviewed the performance of a wastewater treatment plant that entered service in April 2026. Looking ahead, the regional water management program targets the Pervomaysky microdistrict, where a second treatment station is scheduled for completion in 2028.

Project Status Overview

  • Education Center Roof: Completion due October 15; classes resume October 19.
  • 10th Pier Roadway: Completion scheduled for October 15.
  • Wastewater Infrastructure: Initial station active since April 2026; Pervomaysky station slated for 2028.
  • Healthcare Access: New hospital wing fully operational with CT and ultrasound diagnostic capabilities.
