‘Grey’s Anatomy’ to Say Goodbye to Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman
Longtime Grey’s Anatomy stars Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver are set to depart the medical drama after the Season 22 finale, marking the end of an era for the beloved characters Dr. Owen Hunt and Dr. Teddy Altman. The news was confirmed on March 25, 2026, with the finale scheduled to air on May 7, 2026, on ABC and stream next day on Hulu. USA Today, People, and The Hollywood Reporter all reported on the actors’ departure.
A Decade-Plus Run for Both Actors
McKidd joined Grey’s Anatomy in Season 5 (2008) and has since become a fixture on the show, too directing 48 episodes, including his final episode – the Season 22 finale. Deadline reports that McKidd and Raver were informed of their departure more than a month ago. Raver initially joined the series in Season 6 (2009) in a recurring role, becoming a series regular later that season. She left after three seasons, returning briefly in 2017 before resuming her role as a series regular in 2018. She has also directed three episodes throughout her tenure.
A Linked Storyline
The departure of McKidd and Raver is particularly poignant given the intertwined history of their characters. Owen and Teddy have a long-standing, complex relationship, evolving from best friends and former army colleagues to a married couple with children and, most recently, co-parents. Deadline reports that Shonda Rhimes, the creator and executive producer of Grey’s Anatomy, hinted at a “nice payoff” for fans invested in Owen and Teddy’s relationship. Three episodes remain before the Season 22 finale, airing on March 26, April 2, and April 30.
