GTA 6 Standard Edition Requires 210GB on PS5

PlayStation Game Size reveals Grand Theft Auto VI download metrics showing that the standard edition requires 210GB of storage space on the PlayStation 5. The install size for the $80 standard edition was posted on Tuesday by the X account PlayStation Game Size, revealing a gargantuan footprint that will demand virtual inventory management from players given that a base PS5 has a little less than 1TB of usable storage space.

The 210GB requirement for a purely single-player, for now, game towers over other major open-world games from this console generation. For comparison, Elden Ring is only about 65GB, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 asked for 98GB of space on hard drives, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows landed just north of 100GB. While different variables factor into file size, GTA 6’s figure is double the file size of Rockstar’s last game, Red Dead Redemption II. Driving this immense scale is a map that is three times bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2’s, filled with intricate details.

Edition Pricing and Storage Impact

The reported 210GB metric specifically applies to the $79.99 standard edition. Size details for the $100 Ultimate Edition, which includes a wealth of content not found in the regular version, were not made available. While exact figures for the Xbox Series X|S file size were similarly omitted, it is likely to land around the same capacity. Although it is massive, the file size is still not as big as Call of Duty. Players will undoubtedly need to delete other content to fit the game onto their PS5 or Xbox Series X|S hardware.

Launch Timeline and Expectations

GTA 6 officially launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with release time set for midnight. Preloading for GTA 6 begins on November 12, offering a crucial head start for players preparing for the massive download. Anticipation is exceptionally high, with the title expected to be the biggest game of all time. One report projects the game could hit 25 million preorders by launch, generating $2 billion in revenue. While the initial release is strictly single-player, a new version of GTA Online is eventually expected from Rockstar, and a PC edition is anticipated in early 2027.
