Hawai’i Hilo Softball Splits Doubleheader with Jessup, Gears Up for Saturday Rematch

HILO, Hawai’i – Hawai’i Hilo Softball split its first doubleheader against Jessup, falling 11-2 in the opener before securing a 4-1 victory on Friday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at the Vulcan Softball Field.

Game 1: Jessup Dominates with 16 Hits

Jessup quickly established control in the first game, scoring five runs in the opening two innings and ultimately totaling 16 hits.

  • Breli Agbayani-Shibao and Mia Joaquin each recorded their first hits of the season, driving in the Vulcans’ two runs.
  • Ke’alohi Markham went 2 for 2 at the plate and scored Hawai’i Hilo’s first run in the bottom of the third inning.
  • Breeann Leong tallied six assists and two putouts at second base.
  • Harley Acosta contributed two putouts and four assists at third base.
  • Jessup’s 16-hit performance marked a season high for the Warriors.

Game 2: Vulcans Bounce Back with Early Offense and Strong Pitching

Hawai’i Hilo responded strongly in the second game, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Redshirt-sophomore Janessa Santos delivered a complete game in the pitching circle, allowing just one unearned run on five hits while striking out three batters.

  • Mariah Antoque drove in the first two runs for the Vulcans with a two-RBI single and finished the game hitting 2 for 3 with a run scored.
  • Ava Monturio (base hit) and Joaquin (triple) followed with RBI hits to complete the four-run first inning.
  • Santos induced 12 fly outs and 4 ground outs, stranding six Jessup runners on base.
  • Joaquin made four putouts and one assist at third base after moving from second base in the top of the second inning.

Up Next

The Vulcans will continue their series against Jessup with a doubleheader on Saturday, February 28, at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM at the Vulcan Softball Field. They will then host Dominican for two doubleheaders on Wednesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 5, both starting at noon.
