Leonardo DiCaprio Misses SAG Awards to Film New Scorsese Thriller

Leonardo DiCaprio will not be attending the 32nd annual Actor Awards (formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards) on Sunday night due to scheduling conflicts with his latest project, a Martin Scorsese-directed film titled What Happens at Night.

Filming Takes Precedence

DiCaprio is currently filming What Happens at Night in Europe alongside Jennifer Lawrence, preventing his attendance at the awards ceremony. This marks the seventh collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese. It is Lawrence’s first time working with Scorsese as director.

About ‘What Happens at Night’

What Happens at Night is an adaptation of Peter Cameron’s ghost story novel. The story centers on an American couple traveling to Europe to adopt a baby, and their stay at a deserted hotel populated by eccentric characters. Variety provides a synopsis of the novel, noting the wife’s struggle with cancer adds complexity to the adoption process.

Awards Recognition Despite Absence

Despite his absence, DiCaprio is nominated for two awards at the 2026 Actor Awards for his performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. He is nominated alongside Timothée Chalamet, Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan, and Jesse Plemons for the leading actor award. One Battle After Another is competing for best cast performance against Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, and Sinners. DiCaprio previously won an Actor Award for The Revenant in 2016. He is similarly nominated for an Oscar in the same category.

Where to Watch the Awards

The Actor Awards will be streamed live on Netflix on Sunday from 8-10 p.m. ET / 5-7 p.m. PT, hosted by Kristen Bell.

Expanding Cast and Production Details

Mads Mikkelsen and Patricia Clarkson have joined the cast of What Happens at Night, according to Military.com. Mikkelsen is expected to play Brother Emmanuel, a faith healer. Production is slated to begin in late February. The screenplay was penned by Patrick Marber, and the film is a partnership between Apple Original Films and Studiocanal. Deadline reports Apple was also behind Scorsese and DiCaprio’s previous collaboration, Killers of the Flower Moon.
