Hollywood celebrities and entertainment figures celebrated on Tuesday night as Democratic candidates secured majorities in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. The midterm election results also brought significant gubernatorial shifts, with Georgia, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas all flipping to Democratic governors in what many described as a blue tsunami that delivered an electoral rebuke of President Donald Trump, his policies, and the candidates he backed.
As the election results rolled in, prominent figures across film and television shared their reactions online and on late-night television. Actor John Leguizamo posted an extended, celebratory video responding to the outcomes, while actor Wendell Pierce took to social media to characterize the historic moment as a new Reconstruction era.
Late-Night Monologues and Social Media Reactions
During his television monologue, Jimmy Kimmel addressed the election outcome by joking about President Trump. “After all the talk about Nicki Minaj’s ass, Jon Husted’s ass…the only ass on Trump’s mind tonight is the one that just got handed to him,” Kimmel said. He added, “What we do know for sure is that Democrats have officially taken the House. Thanks to President Trump. Blob Vila flipped another House!” and remarked that “The blue wave made landfall, and now the Red Wedding begins.”
Other film and television personalities joined in the online celebrations. Mandy Moore posted a series of photographs celebrating each victory, writing that she had not felt this degree of hope in so long
and that it keeps getting better and better.
Additionally, film distributor Janus Films weighed in on the platform by posting Election Day won.
Historic Electoral Milestones Highlighted by Actors
In his social media post detailing the scope of the political shift, Wendell Pierce outlined several unprecedented milestones achieved during the midterms. His list included the first Black House Speaker, the first Black woman governor, three Black women senators, four Black governors concurrently in office, the first Latina governor, the first Muslim senator, and the first openly gay senator.

The celebrations followed a major push earlier in the day when numerous boldfaced names—including Oscar winners, Emmy winners, Pedro Pascal, Olivia Rodrigo, Dave Bautista, Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Bruce Springsteen, and Samuel L. Jackson—used social media to encourage their fans and followers to cast their ballots.
