South Korea’s Hongseong-gun Sees Success in Infertility Treatment Support

Hongseong-gun, South Chungcheong Province, is demonstrating success in supporting couples facing infertility, achieving a pregnancy success rate of 28.4% as of February 2026. This achievement solidifies the region’s reputation as a supportive environment for families.

Rising Fertility Rates and Support Programs

Hongseong-gun has maintained a total fertility rate of 1.08, ranking it first among county-level local governments in South Chungcheong Province for two consecutive years. This success is attributed to comprehensive support projects designed to overcome the challenges of infertility.

Financial and Administrative Support for Couples

Between 2023 and 2025, a total of 711 infertile couples received financial and administrative support from Hongseong-gun. As of February 2026, 19 out of 67 couples receiving support had successful pregnancies, resulting in the increased success rate of 28.4%.

Comprehensive Coverage for In Vitro and Artificial Insemination

Hongseong-gun provides benefits to all infertile couples in the district, regardless of age or income. The local government covers the cost of in vitro and artificial insemination procedures for up to 25 times, providing between 300,000 won and a maximum of 1.1 million won per procedure. This coverage includes 90% of out-of-pocket costs and extends to three types of non-covered treatments.

Holistic Support Beyond Financial Assistance

Recognizing the emotional toll of infertility treatment, Hongseong-gun offers up to 2.5 million won per couple for oriental medicine treatment. A professional psychological counseling program is also available to identify and support individuals at high risk of depression due to repeated treatment attempts. This integrated approach provides healthcare guidance and emotional support, linking patients with medical institutions to prevent premature treatment abandonment.

Jeong Young-rim, director of the Hongseong County Public Health Center, emphasized the local government’s commitment to creating an environment where prospective parents can focus on preparing for pregnancy without financial worries. She stated the government will continue to strengthen administrative support to offer hope to families waiting to start a family.
