Firefighters Respond to Shed Fire in Hoogezand, Prevent Spread to Home

On January 2, 2026, the Brandweer Hoogezand (Hoogezand Fire Brigade) responded to a fire at a residence on Sportterreinstraat in Hoogezand, Netherlands. The fire originated in a shed and quickly escalated, prompting a response that was scaled up to a medium-sized fire.

Quick Response Prevents Further Damage

Firefighters successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to the main house. Even as the shed was completely destroyed, no injuries were reported. The extinguishing process is ongoing, and firefighters are conducting CO measurements in neighboring homes to ensure the safety of residents before they are allowed to return.

The Salvage Foundation is assisting the homeowners with managing the damage resulting from the fire.

Brandweer Hoogezand: Part of a Larger Network

The Brandweer Hoogezand is one of the fire stations within the Safety Region Groningen, contributing to a network of 39 fire stations across the province. The Groningen fire brigade comprises approximately 750 volunteers and 90 full-time personnel, supported by 70 vehicles. Two stations in Groningen city (Sontweg and Vinkhuizen) operate with professional firefighters available 24/7.
