Longines Global Champions Tour Doha Cancelled, 147 Horses Safely Return to Europe

The opening leg of the 2026 Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) in Doha, Qatar, has been cancelled due to the current regional situation, leaving 147 horses and their accompanying staff stranded at the Al Shaqab Equestrian Centre. However, all horses and personnel have now safely returned to Europe, according to a statement released by LGCT officials on Monday.

Event Cancellation and Immediate Response

The cancellation, announced two days prior to the scheduled start of the competition, prompted a swift effort to arrange transport for the horses. The LGCT, in collaboration with the Doha Tours team, local authorities, and Qatar Airways, worked to organize flights back to Europe as quickly and safely as possible.

Successful Repatriation of Horses

“Two horse flights from Doha have now landed back in Europe and we are delighted to confirm that all 147 horses are safely home,” an LGCT spokesperson stated in a press release. The spokesperson emphasized the extraordinary efforts involved in the operation, acknowledging the tireless work of all parties involved.

Looking Ahead: Miami Beach as the Latest Season Opener

While disappointed by the cancellation of the Doha event, LGCT officials expressed their commitment to returning to Al Shaqab in the future. The 2026 season will now kick off in Miami Beach.
