Five Auctions Set for Italian State Bonds
Italy’s Ministry of Economy and Finance scheduled five distinct auctions for Italian government bonds through November 2026, offering investors short-term bills, traditional medium-to-long term debt, short-term benchmarks, and inflation-linked securities, Il Messaggero reported.
As illustrated by Sky TG24, the operations are managed by the Treasury Department in collaboration with the Bank of Italy. Five auctions in less than three weeks provide new opportunities for individuals looking to invest in Italian government bonds, following a month characterized by the double placement of BTP Valore and BTP Valore Insieme, which allowed the state to raise a total of 16.62 billion euros through more than 560,000 contracts.
The upcoming calendar features placements on November 11, November 12, November 25, November 26, and November 27, covering maturities ranging from short durations up to 50 years, according to Benzinga Italia. Unlike October, which featured extraordinary issues reserved for retail savers like the BTP Valore placements, November’s slate relies on standard market operations managed by the Treasury Department and the Bank of Italy.

BOT Auctions Begin on November 11
The bidding sequence kicks off with an annual BOT auction on November 11, offering 8.5 billion euros in 364-day bills with a settlement date of November 13, SoldiOnline.it reported. The Treasury chose not to offer a three-month BOT on November 11 due to a lack of specific cash requirements, according to the same outlet.
Data from SoldiOnline.it shows that as of October 30, 2026, total BOTs in circulation reached 144,190,392 million euros, comprised of 32,177.830 million euros in six-month BOTs and 112,012.562 million euros in annual BOTs.
QuiFinanza outlined the full schedule of preliminary communications, auction dates, and financial settlements for the month. The second BOT auction takes place on November 26, following communications on November 23 and preceding settlement on November 30. Meanwhile, traditional medium-and-long term BTP auctions are slated for November 12 and November 27, while BTP Short Term and inflation-linked BTP€i securities hit the market on November 25.
Investors Access Debt Instruments Through Banks
Individual investors cannot participate directly in these auctions, but they can submit purchase orders through authorized banks and financial intermediaries, frequently utilizing home banking services, Benzinga Italia reported. The Treasury’s operations include BOTs, which are zero-coupon instruments yielding returns based on the difference between purchase price and reimbursement value at maturity.
The November 25 session includes BTP Short Term instruments with durations between 18 and 36 months, introduced in 2021 to replace CTZ securities, alongside BTP€i bonds indexed to Eurozone inflation via the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, as detailed by Benzinga Italia. Traditional BTP auctions on November 12 and November 27 offer fixed semi-annual coupons spanning maturities from 3 to 50 years.

Auctions Follow a Precise Schedule
The auctions follow a precise schedule that also incorporates preliminary communication dates and financial settlement dates when the securities are transferred from the state to the buyers. Additional instruments mentioned in market context include CctEu state bonds, whose returns are tied to the 6-month Euribor index, the interbank reference rate that also determines mortgage interest rates.
