IR-28 Chassis Heads to Sebring for First Off-IMS Testing
Testing for the new IR-28 chassis, scheduled for introduction in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES at the start of the 2028 season, shifts to Sebring International Raceway on Monday, Oct. 12 and Tuesday, Oct. 13. Five-time and reigning series champion Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing and 2016 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge winner Alexander Rossi of ECR will handle driving duties, marking the first time the new car turns laps outside of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Palou is scheduled to test on Monday, with Rossi taking over the cockpit on Tuesday. The historic Florida circuit mirrors the characteristics of INDYCAR SERIES temporary street circuits, featuring a bumpy layout and a mix of asphalt and concrete surfaces. The upcoming session follows three days of laps by Rossi and Palou in early August on the IMS road course for the car’s on-track debut, followed by an oval testing debut in early September at IMS.

Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global and Scott McLaughlin of Team Penske will turn laps during the two-day test to evaluate tires for Firestone using current NTT INDYCAR SERIES machinery.
