Intel Launches Core Series 3 “Wildcat Lake” Processors for Value Laptops and Edge Devices Intel has officially launched its Core Series 3 mobile processors under the Wildcat Lake codename, marking the company’s latest effort to deliver AI-capable silicon for budget-friendly laptops, commercial systems, and edge devices. Announced on April 16, 2026, the novel lineup replaces older low-power designs with a performance-focused hybrid architecture built on Intel’s 18A process technology. At the heart of the launch is the Core 7 360, the flagship SKU in the Core Series 3 family. It features a 6-core CPU configuration consisting of two Cougar Cove Performance cores and four Darkmont Low-Power Efficient cores. Unlike previous generations, this chip does not include traditional Efficient cores, instead relying entirely on LP-E cores for efficiency—a design choice aligned with Intel’s Panther Lake (Core Ultra Series 3) platform. The Core 7 360 integrates an Xe3-based graphics engine with two Xe-cores capable of reaching up to 2.6 GHz, delivering up to 21 TOPS of GPU AI performance. It too includes an NPU 5 block rated at 17 TOPS, contributing to a total platform AI performance of up to 40 TOPS when combined across CPU, GPU, and NPU workloads. Intel positions this as its first hybrid AI-ready Core Series platform, emphasizing on-device AI capabilities for tasks like background blur, real-time transcription, and intelligent photo editing. Performance claims from Intel indicate the Core 7 360 delivers up to 2.1x faster creation and productivity compared to the older Core 7 150U, up to 2.7x higher AI GPU performance, and up to 64% lower processor power in select workloads. When measured against a five-year-old Core i7-1185G7 system, the new chip offers up to 47% higher single-thread performance and up to 41% higher multi-thread performance—figures derived from Intel’s internal reference-platform testing. The processor operates with a 15W base power and a 35W maximum turbo power, reflecting a shift from the ultra-low 6–7W TDP of earlier generations to a broader 15–35W range. This adjustment allows for sustained performance in thin-and-light laptops while maintaining efficiency for all-day use. Memory support includes LPDDR5X-7467 and DDR5-6400, with compatibility for up to two Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0. The Core Series 3 lineup extends beyond the Core 7 360 to include the Core 7 350, Core 5 330, 320, and 315, as well as the Core 3 304. All consumer SKUs share the same 2+4 core layout (two P-cores, four LP-E cores), except the entry-level Core 3 304, which uses a 1+4 configuration. An edge-only variant, the Core 5 305, is also available with reduced AI capabilities and no NPU. All chips in the series are fabricated on Intel’s 18A process and use a two-tile package: a compute die housing the CPU, GPU, and NPU, and a platform controller tile providing six PCIe 4.0 lanes, Thunderbolt 4 support, Wi-Fi 7 (R2), and Bluetooth Core 6.0. Intel confirms that more than 70 laptop designs are planned from partners including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Samsung throughout 2026. By positioning Core Series 3 as the value-segment counterpart to Panther Lake, Intel aims to compete directly in the growing market for AI-enabled PCs while offering OEMs a cost-effective path to modern features like on-device AI acceleration, advanced connectivity, and improved battery life in mainstream laptops. The launch reflects Intel’s broader strategy to bring AI capabilities across its product stack—not just in premium Ultra chips but also in volume-driven Core Series offerings.
