Apple’s iPad Air Gets M4 Boost: A Deep Dive
Apple has significantly upgraded the iPad Air with its latest M4 chip, delivering substantial performance gains and new features. This refresh positions the iPad Air as a compelling option for users seeking a balance between portability and power. The updated models, available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, maintain the starting price of €669, now with increased base storage of 128GB.
M4 Chip: The Heart of the Upgrade
The integration of the M4 chip is the most significant change to the iPad Air. Apple claims the new iPad Air is up to 30% faster than the previous generation with the M3 chip and a remarkable 2.3 times faster than the iPad Air powered by the M1 chip [Apple Official Site]. This performance leap is driven by the M4’s 8-core CPU, featuring 3 performance cores and 5 efficiency cores, and a 9-core GPU.
The M4 chip also boasts 12GB of unified memory, enhancing multitasking capabilities and reducing load times. The chip incorporates hardware-accelerated ray tracing, resulting in more realistic and vibrant graphics in games and applications.
Enhanced Connectivity and Features
Beyond the M4 chip, the new iPad Air benefits from Apple’s in-house designed C1X cellular chip, previously found in the iPhone 17e, and the N1 chip for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. These advancements contribute to faster wireless speeds and improved cellular performance.
Apple Intelligence Integration
The M4 chip powers Apple Intelligence, enabling advanced AI features and capabilities directly on the device. This allows for faster and more efficient performance in everyday tasks, from creating content to communicating and getting things done. The Neural Engine within the M4 chip is specifically designed to accelerate AI-powered applications.
Display and Accessories
The iPad Air continues to feature a stunning Liquid Retina display in both 11-inch and 13-inch models. It remains compatible with the Magic Keyboard, now with a 14-key function row and a large trackpad, and the Apple Pencil Pro for enhanced creativity.
