UCAM Cartagena’s ‘Aula Sana’ Initiative Promotes Children’s Dental Health
Cartagena, Spain – On March 3, 2026, the Universidad Católica San Antonio (UCAM) Cartagena launched ‘Aula Sana’ (Healthy Classroom), a new program designed to improve oral health education and reduce dental anxiety among schoolchildren in the region. The initiative, spearheaded by the university’s dental clinic, UCAM Dental, will provide monthly visits to local schools, offering children a firsthand look at a dental environment and practical oral hygiene guidance.
Bridging the Gap Between Children and Dental Care
The ‘Aula Sana’ program aims to address the common fear children often experience when visiting the dentist. By familiarizing students with the clinic setting and the function of dental professionals in a non-threatening environment, UCAM hopes to foster positive attitudes towards oral healthcare. The first session of the program welcomed over 40 students from the CEIP Atalaya school, introducing them to the facilities and equipment at UCAM Dental, located on Alameda de San Antón.
Interactive Learning for Young Smiles
The program incorporates interactive learning experiences, including tours of the clinic and a workshop led by UCAM Dental’s instructors. The workshop covered essential oral hygiene practices, such as proper brushing techniques, cavity prevention, and the importance of regular dental check-ups. Students received practical tips to integrate dental care into their daily routines through engaging and age-appropriate activities.
UCAM Dental: A Community Resource
UCAM Dental, the university’s dental clinic, plays a central role in the ‘Aula Sana’ initiative. The clinic, which as well offers a Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry taught in English, aims to serve as a hub for dental education and community outreach. UCAM Dental Cartagena initiated operations in one of the largest dental clinics in Spain in April 2023.
Looking Ahead
Following the successful launch with CEIP Atalaya, UCAM plans to expand the ‘Aula Sana’ program to include more schools in the Cartagena area. This ongoing initiative will solidify UCAM Dental’s position as a valuable resource for promoting oral health awareness and preventative care within the local educational community. The UCAM Cartagena campus, known for its focus on health and sports education, continues to demonstrate its commitment to community service and student engagement.
