Iran Displays Giant Anti-Trump Billboards in Tehran Amid Regional Conflict

Giant billboards bearing threats against United States President Donald Trump have appeared across Tehran, escalating official rhetoric in the Iranian capital, detikNews reported. A towering billboard above the busy Enghelab Square features an image of Trump behind bars with his head bowed, accompanied by the English text, “We Will Kill Trump.”

The display is part of a broader campaign of murals and posters mocking Trump and promising retaliation. These displays have appeared frequently since conflict erupted on February 28, following a US and Israel strike that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In northern Tehran’s busy Tajrish Square, an open-air exhibition displays painted portraits of Trump. One painting shows his face covered in blood on the ground with a foot stomping on his head. Another artwork depicts a bomb covering Trump’s face, referencing Rene Magritte’s 1964 surrealist painting, “The Son of Man.” Nearby, there is a full-scale replica of a prison cell where an actor plays Trump, while a nearby screen broadcasts footage of damage caused by US strikes. Tehran accuses Trump of deliberately targeting civilian locations during the conflict, including a school and a wedding party, which resulted in dozens of deaths among women and children. State-backed murals and billboards have served as public fixtures in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, functioning as tools to honor allies, celebrate military figures, and project political messages toward adversaries like the US and Israel.

Tehran and Washington Face Diplomatic Pressure to Halt Fighting

The emergence of the new billboards coincides with recent diplomatic pushes urging Tehran and Washington to negotiate and halt the fighting. The broader regional conflict has driven up global prices. Trump, who on Tuesday (3/11) faces crucial US midterm elections amid voter dissatisfaction partly fueled by the Iran war, stated that a deal “could happen” with Tehran.
