According to reports from RTÉ and The Irish Times, the altercation began when an individual approached Mr. Healy-Rae’s vehicle while it was stationary in traffic. His brother and fellow Kerry TD, Danny Healy-Rae, told the Dáil that Michael Healy-Rae had been “hit in the window” while unable to defend himself. Gardaí from Kevin Street Station responded quickly to the scene, transferring the injured TD to a Garda vehicle before bringing him to Kevin Street Garda Station, where an ambulance was called. Mr. Healy-Rae was subsequently transported to St. Vincent’s University Hospital, receiving treatment and stitches for a head wound before his discharge shortly before 9:00 p.m.
