Jake Paul Undergoes Second Surgery for Broken Jaw
Jake Paul, the social media star turned professional boxer, recently underwent a second surgical procedure to address a broken jaw sustained during his December 19th bout with Anthony Joshua. The surgery was necessary after screws and plates from the initial repair began to loosen, according to Paul’s Instagram post reported by the New York Post.
Initial Injury and First Surgery
Paul suffered a fractured jaw in two places during his sixth-round knockout loss to the former two-time unified heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua as detailed by ESPN. Following the fight, he underwent an initial surgery on December 20th, which involved the insertion of two titanium plates on each side of his jaw and the removal of some teeth according to USA Today.
Second Surgery Details
In a recent Instagram post, Paul explained that the need for a second surgery arose because the screws and plates from the first procedure were becoming loose, apparently due to his activity level in the two months following the initial operation as reported by the New York Post. He shared images of his hospital stay, including a metal contraption surrounding his mouth and a video of his fiancée, Olympic speedskater Jutta Leerdam, assisting him in a wheelchair.
Recovery and Future Plans
Although Paul has been active on social media and publicly supported Leerdam’s recent success at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where she won a gold medal in the women’s 1,000-meter speedskating competition ESPN reports, the second surgery will likely delay his return to boxing. He has not yet announced a timetable for his next fight.
Paul’s Boxing Record
The loss to Joshua was Paul’s second professional defeat, bringing his record to 12-2. Prior to the losses against Joshua and Tommy Fury in 2023, Paul had secured wins against several notable combat sports figures, including Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, and Tyron Woodley according to ESPN.
