CAR Cáceres Announces Return of Jerry Surumi Davoibaravi
The CAR Cáceres rugby club has officially announced the return of Fijian international Jerry Surumi Davoibaravi for the 2026/2027 season. The veteran back, who debuted in Spain with the Extremaduran side during the 2015/2016 campaign, rejoins the club as a cornerstone for their upcoming project, according to the official club statement released this Thursday.
A Proven Career in Spanish Rugby
Surumi Davoibaravi, born in Fiji on June 12, 1994, brings extensive experience to the CAR Cáceres squad. After his initial three-year stint in Cáceres, the 1.73-meter-tall back transitioned to the División de Honor, the highest tier of Spanish rugby. Throughout his career, he has represented several prominent clubs, including Aparejadores Burgos, Ourense, La Vila, and most recently, Liceo Francés.
His tenure with the Valladolid-based club VRAC proved particularly successful. During his time there, Surumi secured a significant trophy haul, including two División de Honor league titles, two Copa del Rey victories, two Iberia Cups, and one Spanish Supercup. His reputation as a “differential” player—known for his speed, agility in open field, and ability to break defensive lines—has been a hallmark of his play since he first arrived in Spain at age 21.
International Experience and Ties to Extremadura
The player’s professional trajectory includes notable international appearances. In November 2021, Surumi achieved a career milestone by debuting for the Spanish national XV team at the Estadio Nacional Complutense in Madrid, in a match against his native Fiji. He also represented Spain in rugby sevens, participating in the World Series, an experience the club expects will elevate the competitive standard of their current roster.
Despite his years playing across the country, Surumi maintained a consistent connection with the Cáceres community, frequently visiting the club at El Cuartillo. This long-standing relationship has now culminated in a formal return to the team.
Strategic Goals for the 2026/2027 Season
The signing of Surumi serves as a strategic move for CAR Cáceres as they prepare for a period of major national restructuring. The Spanish rugby competition landscape is set to consolidate into two groups of 12 teams over the next two seasons. This shift is expected to increase both the level of play and the economic demands on participating clubs.

The club aims to secure a spot among the 24 teams that will form this new national framework. To support this ambition, the organization is actively working on securing new sponsorship agreements to bolster the financial sustainability of the project, while simultaneously building a roster capable of competing for a return to the División de Honor B.
