Pegula Powers to Dubai Title, Securing 10th Career WTA Crown
Dubai – Jessica Pegula claimed her fourth WTA 1000 crown and 10th career title on Saturday, defeating Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-4 in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships final. The victory comes as an early birthday present for the American, who turns 32 on February 24th.
Dominant Performance from Pegula
Pegula, the fourth seed, demonstrated control from the outset, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead in the first set. She secured the first set with a score of 6-2, capitalizing on Svitolina’s struggles. The second set saw Pegula break Svitolina in the fifth game, ultimately sealing the match with an ace after one hour and 12 minutes of play.
Svitolina’s Grueling Path to the Final
Svitolina, the seventh seed, appeared fatigued entering the final, potentially due to her demanding three-set wins throughout the tournament, including a particularly grueling three-hour, three-minute semi-final encounter against Coco Gauff. That semi-final featured a 28-point tiebreak, the longest of the 2026 season.
Pegula’s Consistent Run of Form
This Dubai triumph marks Pegula’s first title of the year, following semi-final appearances at the Brisbane International and the Australian Open in January. She has now reached the semi-finals or better in seven consecutive tournaments, showcasing remarkable consistency on the WTA Tour. Pegula has been a regular presence deep into tournaments of late, reaching at least the semi-finals in her last seven events, including at Melbourne Park, the WTA Finals Riyadh and the WTA 1000 stops in Beijing and Wuhan.
Third American Champion in Dubai
With this win, Pegula joins Lindsay Davenport and Venus Williams as the third American woman to win the Dubai Tennis Championships. Venus Williams previously won the title three times, including in 2014 when she was 33 years old.
Looking Ahead
Pegula’s victory solidifies her position as a leading force in women’s tennis. She will now return home with the trophy and prepare for future challenges on the tour.
