Joe Naughton, Prominent Galway Figure, Dies at 92
Joe Naughton of Ballinlass, Mountbellew, County Galway, Ireland, passed away peacefully at his home on February 25, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by his family. His death marks the loss of a well-known figure in the Mountbellew community.
A Life Remembered
Born into a large family, Mr. Naughton was predeceased by his wife, Bridie, in 2018, as well as his parents, John and Bridget, an infant brother, his brother Gerry, his granddaughter Emma, and his infant great-grandson Danny. He is survived by his eleven daughters – Mary (Finnerty), Ann (Conroy), Bernie (Devaney), Francella (London), Josephine (Shaughnessy), Veronica (Farrell), Rita (New York), Chrissie (Heslin), Claire, Pauline (Naughton/Heavey), and Valerie (Flanagan) – and four sons, John, Michael, Pat, and Martin. He also leaves behind 29 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, his sister Philomena (Birmingham), and his brother Frank (London), along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Arrangements
Mr. Naughton will repose in the Franciscan Monastery Oratory, Mountbellew (H53WE00) on Friday evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Removal will capture place from his home on Saturday morning to St. Mary’s Church, Mountbellew, for Requiem Mass at 11:00 AM. Following the mass, he will be laid to rest in Killyan Cemetery, Newbridge. The family has requested that the house be kept private on Saturday morning.
