Jonathan Rhys Meyers Finds “Cathartic” Release in Loss of Malibu Home to Wildfires

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has described losing his Malibu home to the California wildfires last year as a surprisingly “cathartic” experience. The actor shared his reflections while attending the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) Awards in Dublin on Friday night.

Reflecting on the Loss

Speaking on the red carpet, Meyers explained the emotional journey following the fire. “At the time, obviously, it was shocking and then, on reflection, it’s kind of cathartic,” he said. “It builds character, if you appear at it the right way, but yes, you don’t plan for it.”

Family and Recovery

Meyers, known for his roles in series such as The Tudors and Vikings, was at the IFTA Awards to present an award. He expressed relief that his family was safe, stating that a year later, they are “very, very well.” He emphasized, “The most important thing in my house was safe, that’s my son, everything else you can build again.”
