Judo Safari Program Encourages Youth Development Through Multi-Disciplinary Athletics
The Judo Safari is a youth development initiative organized by the Budo department of TV Eiche, designed to integrate physical athleticism with creative expression for children aged 5 to 11. Participants engage in a series of fundamental motor skill challenges, artistic projects, and modified combat simulations to earn rankings, with recent events held at the club’s Dojo in Bad Honnef.
How the Judo Safari Format Works

Unlike traditional judo tournaments that focus exclusively on combat, the Judo Safari evaluates participants across three distinct pillars: athletic performance, artistic creativity, and martial arts proficiency. According to event organizers, the program aims to foster well-rounded development by testing children in running, ball throwing, and standing jumps.
Creativity is assessed through themed projects, such as drawings or collages, which allow children to express themselves outside of the athletic arena. Meanwhile, the martial arts component utilizes a “Japanese Tournament” format. In this structure, participants are matched by size rather than age or rank. The smallest competitors begin the match, and winners remain on the mat to face the next opponent. This continues until a participant is defeated or achieves five consecutive victories, which secures the maximum possible points for that segment of the event.
Recent Results and Performance Metrics
The most recent session at the TV Eiche Sportzentrum hosted 23 children who train in judo, taekwondo, or kung fu. Trainers Uta Stang, Annette Hillemanns, and Bruno Barbier oversaw the proceedings, ensuring that all participants were divided into appropriate age brackets for the physical testing.
Performance data from the event highlighted several standout athletes:
- Running: Nazar Pukhkalo and Julian Becker recorded the fastest times in their respective age groups.
- Ball Throwing and Standing Jump: Nazar Pukhkalo and Ben Ott emerged as the top performers in these strength and explosive power metrics.
- Japanese Tournament: Hussein Ramihudoev and Anton Linnik achieved the maximum point threshold by winning five consecutive matches.
In the creative category, the parent-led jury selected the artwork of Nazar Pukhkalo and Anton Linnik as the most distinguished. The highest overall honor, the “Black Panther” award, was presented to Hussein Ramihudoev and Anton Linnik for their combined performance across all disciplines.
Future Recognition and Club Participation

The Judo Safari serves as a foundational event for the Budo department, emphasizing long-term engagement over singular victories. While the physical and creative portions of the event were completed at the Dojo, the formal recognition of the participants’ achievements is scheduled for a later date.
According to program lead Bruno Barbier, the official award ceremony, where children will receive their certificates and achievement patches, is set to take place during the annual Budo Gala on November 14. This event serves as the culmination of the training cycle, allowing the club to celebrate the progress of its youth members in front of the wider community.
