Kacey Musgraves Hints at Seventh Studio Album with Provocative “Dry Spell” Campaign
Kacey Musgraves is building anticipation for her seventh studio album, slated for release later this year through Lost Highway, with a series of intriguing teasers centered around a self-proclaimed “dry spell.” The Grammy-winning artist is set to unveil her new single, “Dry Spell,” on Wednesday, March 11.
Billboards and Social Media Buzz
Musgraves has sparked curiosity with billboards appearing in various cities, boldly asking, “Dry spell? Call for a real good time.” She’s further fueled the buzz on social media, sharing snippets of the upcoming song and engaging directly with fans. A recent Instagram post featured a clip of the song accompanied by a playful caption: “You up?”
Lyrical Teasers and a Playful Tone
The lyrics shared thus far suggest a candid and playful exploration of desire, and longing. A recent teaser includes the lines: “Ain’t nobody’s tool up in my shed / Ain’t nobody’s boots under my bed / Ain’t nobody’s truck in my drive / For a late night call for a real good time.” Earlier lyrics revealed a sentiment of loneliness, stating, “It’s been a real long 335 days, And the last time, it wasn’t good anyway.”
Return to Lost Highway and Artistic Evolution
This new project marks Musgraves’ return to Lost Highway, the label she originally signed with in 2011 before its absorption by Mercury Records. She expressed her appreciation for the creative freedom the label offers, stating in a previous interview with the Hollywood Reporter that she enjoys “being in a period of time where I’m not rushed by a deadline and have the space to mosey and poke around.”
Musgraves reflected on her artistic journey, noting the evolution from the traditional country sounds of Same Trailer Different Park and Pageant Material to the more experimental Golden Hour and the emotionally raw Star Crossed. Her previous album, Deeper Well, released in March 2024, saw a return to her roots while still incorporating a modern edge.
Recent Success and Future Projects
Deeper Well achieved significant success, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Country albums chart. The track “The Architect” from that album earned a Grammy Award for Best Country Song. The upcoming album, KM6, will follow this success and continue Musgraves’ exploration of balancing tradition and innovation in her music.
