Metropolitan Police Refer Themselves to Watchdog Over 2019 Thomas Markle Warning Letter
The Metropolitan Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct over their handling of a 2019 letter that warned of dangers to the security of the Duchess of Sussex regarding her father, Thomas Markle. The force confirmed it passed the document to the private office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex seven years ago without sharing its contents with overseas law enforcement agencies, according to reporting by The Guardian.
It was allegedly written by his former wife, Roslyn Loveless.

An Independent Office for Police Conduct spokesperson stated that officials are assessing the referral before deciding whether to launch an independent investigation or return the matter to the Metropolitan Police, as reported by The Guardian. The Metropolitan Police stated they could no longer locate a copy of the warning letter within their own systems and requested the Duchess of Sussex provide her copy to assist their review.

Royal Family Faces Scrutiny Over Shared 2019 Office Records
The 2019 letter was reportedly sent to the joint office shared at the time by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Prince and Princess of Wales, raising questions about what senior members of the royal household knew. A royal commentator told Page Six that the ongoing controversy could prompt King Charles III to further distance the monarchy from the Sussexes. Meanwhile, Meghan issued a statement regarding her estrangement from her father, emphasizing that her decision to keep him away from her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, was strictly to protect them.
