Kazakhstan Central Bank Allocates $350 Million to Crypto Investments

Kazakhstan is poised to become one of the first central banks to directly invest in the digital asset ecosystem, allocating up to $350 million from its gold and foreign exchange reserves to crypto-related assets. The move signals a growing acceptance of digital assets by national financial institutions and a strategic effort to participate in the evolving financial landscape.

Investment Strategy and Timeline

Governor Timur Suleimanov announced that the National Bank of Kazakhstan is developing a list of eligible investments, moving beyond direct cryptocurrency holdings. The investment plan is scheduled to start in April and May 2026, according to Deputy Chair Aliya Moldabekova MSN.

Focus on Infrastructure and Companies

The Kazakh central bank intends to focus its investments on shares of high-tech companies involved in digital asset infrastructure, cryptocurrency infrastructure firms, and crypto-linked index funds Bitcoin Magazine.
