Kimi Antonelli: A Rising Star in Formula 1 Celebrated by Family and Fans

Bologna, Italy – March 17, 2026 – Kimi Antonelli, the young Mercedes driver, was greeted with warmth and pride upon his arrival at Bologna’s Marconi Airport today. His mother, Veronica, embraced him, expressing her confidence in his growing maturity and skill as he continues his Formula 1 journey.

A Family Affair

The homecoming was distinctly Bolognese, with Veronica playfully offering to prepare gramigna with ragù, a local pasta dish, for her son. The Antonelli family – including father Marco and sister Meggie – were present to celebrate Kimi’s recent success. Meggie, currently in school, was eagerly anticipating a surprise party organized by Kimi’s friends at the family home in Casalecchio.

Veronica Antonelli on Kimi’s Performance

Veronica shared her emotional experience during the race, admitting to tears of joy when she saw Kimi’s reaction. She attributed his success to both his talent and the support of the Mercedes team. “I slept particularly well the night before the race and usually, when I do this, the results are not exceptional,” she noted, recalling a pattern she’s observed. She was unable to attend Saturday’s pole position due to a commitment with her daughter at a rhythmic gymnastics rehearsal in Ravenna.

Growth and Maturity

Veronica highlighted Kimi’s development, stating, “Andy (his first name is Andrea) has always remained himself. I am very happy for him because it is the culmination of a journey. The first year was complicated, now I see him a lot safer and also more mature.” This growth extends beyond the racetrack, as Kimi recently earned his high school diploma in technical administration, finance, and marketing.

Rivalry with George Russell

The competitive dynamic between Antonelli and teammate George Russell was also addressed. Veronica acknowledged Russell’s experience, noting his six years in Formula 1, but expressed confidence in Kimi’s potential. “Russell is very strong,” she said. “He already has six years of experience in Formula One and that’s fine, he is in the midst of maturity and Andy is a boy who is becoming a man.”

As Kimi Antonelli enjoys a well-deserved plate of gramigna with ragù, he continues to represent a promising future for Italian motorsports, backed by a supportive family and a leading team.
