The Arizona Cardinals have informed quarterback Kyler Murray that he will be released at the start of the new league year on March 11, 2026, barring a trade. This marks the end of a seven-season tenure for the former No. 1 overall draft pick.

Murray’s Departure and Financial Implications

Murray is due $36.8 million in guaranteed money for the 2026 season. He is likely to sign with a new team for the veteran minimum salary, similar to Russell Wilson’s move to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024 .

Following the announcement, Murray released a statement expressing his gratitude to Cardinals fans and regret for not achieving more success with the team. He wrote, “To everyone that supported me and showed kindness to my family and I during my time in AZ, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Murray was drafted first overall by the Cardinals in 2019 after winning the Heisman Trophy at the University of Oklahoma in 2018.
