Kylie Jenner sparked online debate on January 10, 2026, after posting a TikTok video promoting Foodology’s cutting jelly, a pomegranate-flavored dietary supplement marketed for digestion and bloating. Makeup guru and reality star Jenner wore a red latex dress in the clip while pulling multiple jelly sticks from her purse, telling followers her goal for the new year was to snack less. The video quickly drew sharp criticism across social media platforms, with viewers and critics questioning the safety and appropriateness of promoting weight management products to impressionable audiences.

Public Backlash and Reddit Criticism

The promotion drew immediate pushback on platforms like Reddit, where users criticized the influencer-led marketing of diet products. User lilafowler1 wrote that it is irresponsible for celebrities to advertise supplements and laxatives to kids and teens who might take the claims as gospel. Other commenters mocked the video’s production style, noting multiple cuts in the footage while Jenner handled the product. Additional critics questioned the logic of consuming a digestion aid right before leaving the house.

Health Claims Versus Expert Analysis

The cutting jelly is designed to support appetite control, carbohydrate metabolism, and daily weight management routines. The product contains Garcinia cambogia extract, which the brand claims supports metabolic balance as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Medical and health experts push back against these marketing claims. Dr. Chethan Ramprasad, a professor of gastroenterology at Harvard interviewed by GQ, stated that cutting gels function primarily as a marketing hook with very little clinical effect on actual weight loss. Ramprasad explained that these products act essentially as laxatives due to their sorbitol content, creating a temporary “clean out effect.” The National Eating Disorders Association notes that any weight dropped through laxative use is strictly water weight, and frequent use can lead to dehydration and dangerous electrolyte imbalances.

Furthermore, safety concerns surround Garcinia cambogia. The French health agency ANSES issued warnings against supplements containing the extract due to links with acute hepatitis. Similar weight loss products containing Garcinia cambogia, such as Muscletech’s Hydroxycut, were pulled from the market in 2009 following reports of severe liver injuries requiring transplants, as documented in The American Journal of Gastroenterology.
